Bill Kennedy Elected to NCRP Board of Directors

March 10, 2014

William (Bill) E. Kennedy, Jr., has been elected as a member of the National Council on Radiation Protection and Measurements (NCRP) Board of Directors. In this role, he will, among other duties, review scientific and program committees, adopt updates and revisions to the strategic plan, and review and approve policies and actions necessary for the continued operations of the organization. In addition, Kennedy will serve on the NCRP finance committee, charged with developing the council’s operating budget.

Kennedy has extensive experience in a broad range of radiation protection topics. He has been involved with the development of the technical basis for revised radiation protection standards and regulations, and has participated in evaluations and appraisals at operating nuclear facilities. He is a fellow of the Health Physics Society and has been the author or coauthor of more than 160 technical publications, presentations, and short courses.

Chartered by the U.S. Congress in 1964, the NCRP has been collecting, analyzing, and disseminating information regarding public radiation protection for the past 50 years. The council consists of 100 voting members who serve 6-year terms and are elected for their scientific expertise, as well as a policy-making Board of Directors of nine members. Kennedy has served two consecutive terms on the Council; this is his first election to the Board of Directors.
