Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill

Mobilizing more than 200 specialized personnel, NV5 provided environmental sampling and quality assurance support required as part of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Natural Resource Damage Assessment for the British Petroleum Deep Water Horizon oil spill.

We operated multiple environmental sample intake and logistical centers that served the full 1,600 miles of Gulf coastline. We conducted sample and data intakes from all field sampling and observation teams operated or supported by NOAA – including aboard NOAA vessels – ensuring complete, accurate, and consistent chain of custody of more than 150,000 environmental samples. We also performed primary and secondary quality assurance reviews of all sample intake data.

We packed samples and shipped them to laboratories, ensuring accurate, timely delivery without compromising chain of custody, and we also provided long-term storage for samples and documents subject to non-disposition requirements. Additionally, we procured, verified, distributed, and administered technical supplies and equipment to support the sampling process, and we trained sampling technicians and data managers for near-shore and off-shore sampling teams.
