One of the world’s preeminent designer and manufacturer of commercial and work-related furniture products has a stated goal to become carbon negative by 2030. It seeks to achieve this target by markedly reducing emissions across its own operations. To this end it engaged NV5 Energy Efficiency Services to conduct energy audits at two of its manufacturing sites in the United States. The aim of these audits was to identify efficiency opportunities that the company could pursue in support of its decarbonization goals.
In 2020, NV5 Energy Efficiency Services conducted energy audits to ISO 50002:2014 and ASHRAE 211:2018 which resulted in the quantification of 60 efficiency and decarbonization opportunities. The preparation of an energy balance allowed for the analysis of longer term decarbonization opportunities beyond typical efficiency measures. The resulting portfolio of opportunities was used to develop an internal carbon price based on the company’s internal capital appropriation systems.
