NV5 provided mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, telecommunications, and security engineering survey, design, and construction administration services for renovations to the Wheelwright Hall (dormitory) at the Phillips Exeter Academy Campus. Wheelwright Hall, built in 1934, is a four-story brick building. The building is predominantly single student dormitory rooms and contains three faculty apartments. The building is 27,440 GSF and, in addition to the dormitory rooms, includes storage areas, commons spaces, game rooms, and common bathrooms.
NV5’s design included a new perimeter heating system with new hot water baseboard heating including a new heat exchanger, pumps, piping, and controls. It also included a new central ventilation system with an energy recovery wheel to ventilate bathrooms, corridors, and dormitory rooms. Our plumbing design included new student toilets and faculty bathroom upgrades including new fixtures, sanitary piping, and hot and cold water distribution piping.
Electrical system upgrades included revisions to the fire alarm system, new electrical service upgrade to the building for 208V/3 phase, new secondary power distribution throughout the building, and a new emergency electrical system including emergency lighting and stand by power. Additional upgrades included telecommunications design for telephone, data, CATV, and wireless conductivity throughout the building. Security included an electronic door access system tied into the campus central system.
