NV5 performed a geotechnical engineering investigation of the Rancho Tehama Road Bridge to replace the existing railroad car span with a new open box culvert bridge structure. The existing bridge provided the only ingress/egress for approximately 800 residences within the Rancho Tehama Subdivision near Corning.
The project involved drilling exploratory borings at both bridge abutments to obtain subsurface soil and groundwater information and representative soil samples for laboratory testing.
The field and laboratory data were used to develop design recommendations for the new bridge foundations and associated earthwork grading. We recommended relatively inexpensive shallow spread foundations to support the bridge structure at each abutment.
