NV5 provided MEP/FP engineering design services for the 400 space underground parking garage at the corner of Francis Street and Huntington Avenue in Boston for Brigham and Women’s Hospital. The completed project provides additional patient parking spaces, a 40,000 SF landscaped park, a parking area for 76 bicycles, and an improved, covered MBTA bus stop.
The HVAC systems included ventilation and exhaust systems for the below grade structure as well as heating and cooling of attendant spaces, elevator machine, and utility rooms. The electrical system included a new service to the parking facility. Emergency power for fire alarm and emergency lighting will be via a diesel generator. A fire alarm system also was designed to support the new parking facility.
The plumbing system included cold water systems with hot water, drainage waste, and vent piping supporting the attendant toilet facilities and a non-potable wash down system within the parking areas. Fire protection systems included automatic sprinklers throughout the new parking facility. This system is comprised of multiple dry sprinkler systems supporting the multiple levels of the parking facility and will be supported from the municipal water supply.
