Delaware River Waterfront Corporation (DRWC) held a ribbon cutting ceremony in late December 2016 for its three-year multi-million-dollar project that redesigned the streetscape on Spring Garden Street in the Northern Liberties neighborhood of Philadelphia. As the prime firm, NV5 developed the design concept and coordinated the work of lighting and graphic designers and engineers. The project included the design of an exciting new artistic and architectural lighting installation that brought life to a 190-foot long dark and dreary tunnel under I-95.
The dynamic new computer controlled lighting design brings more safety to Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority station users and encourages pedestrians and bicyclists to travel through the tunnel and explore the neighborhoods on the opposite side. In addition to leading the design team, NV5 also managed public outreach, inter-agency coordination and securing all necessary permits and approvals.
