East Carolina University Student Services Building

NV5 designed the new 72,788 SF student services facility on East Carolina University’s Health Sciences Campus (HSC) to LEED Silver standards. The building contains a multipurpose marketplace dining facility, a Starbucks coffee shop, a 25,000 SF recreation center, a convenience store, a ticket office, a 2,000 SF multipurpose event room, a wellness office, a student health services center, and a student services center (career services, one card, parking, and transportation offices).

NV5’s HVAC scope included new HVAC air distribution systems to serve the facility; a building control system to control the new HVAC equipment; dedicated 24/7 cooling for MDF and IDF rooms; toilet exhaust systems; fresh air and exhaust for fitness center and associated showers; and fresh air systems for conference rooms and large assembly areas.

Our plumbing scope included plumbing fixtures, sanitary and grease waste, domestic water and natural gas; commercial kitchen fixtures and equipment, Starbucks coffee shop, core bathrooms, exam clinic, locker rooms, showers, laundry room, break room equipment, mechanical room equipment and emergency fixtures; design for roof drainage: new roof drains and overflows and all associated piping; and additional alternative design for condensation collection system. Our electrical scope included a new 2000A electrical distribution system with department sub metering system; LED lighting; telecommunications infrastructure; addressable fire alarm system; security Infrastructure; AV Infrastructure; power connections for all HVAC and plumbing equipment; and site utilities and lighting.
