McCarran’s Terminal 3 was a two million square foot addition with three levels that provide 14 aircraft gates, as well as six gates that function as international “swing gates.”
NV5 performed the mechanical and electrical engineering on this project, along with the central plant. The 15,000 ton central utility plant is comprised of six 2,500 ton chillers and a boiler plant designed to meet the demands of the new terminal and adjacent facilities. The central plant also has 8MW of parallel generation and four 2MW generators with closed transition interface with multiple 12.47kV utility sources.
NV5 has worked on master planning at the airport since the early 1980s and has been involved in nearly every aspect of this world class airport, including: Gate C expansion, Gates C and D security expansion, Concourse D northwest and northeast expansion, Terminal 3, expansion phase 1, aircraft hangar, generator systems, sewage plant, central plant, fire station, Wolfgang Puck restaurant at Gate C, US Airways Club, and baggage.
