The new parking garage on the South Campus of UMass Lowell, on the former Riverside surface parking lot, houses a 6-1/2 level open-parking facility that provides parking for approximately 762 passenger vehicles (600 new spaces and 162 spaces replacing those that exist within the footprint of the new structure). The parking facility is 34,600 square feet of at-grade floor area, and 191,000 square feet of on structure floor area. Pedestrian access to and egress from the facility is via a large, high, glass-enclosed stair hall that is located at the north end of the new parking structure.
The superstructure system consists of pre-tensioned/pre-cast concrete double tee beams supported on pre-cast concrete frame elements. Colored pre-cast concrete was used for column, wall, and spandrel elements, and some wall/spandrel elements have thin set brick tile on select exposed surfaces.
