NV5 provided the environmental documentation, alternative route alignments and design for a six-mile segment of Unser Boulevard through the Petroglyph National Monument. The environmental clearance phase of the project involved numerous public information meetings and public hearings. Design included roadway, landscaping, lighting and signalization, storm drainage and right-of-way acquisition. A Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) was granted for the project.
In addition to the unique technical challenges of traversing the lava flows through the volcanic escarpment, this project included an art project administered by the City’s art program. NV5 worked closely with the public artist and a citizen’s advisory committee to integrate a thematic and aesthetic design throughout the corridor with highlighted features in the retaining walls and landscaping.
