Urban Design

Urban design is a process of understanding, organizing, and shaping the relationships between buildings, streets, open spaces, landscape elements, and natural features to re-energize places or create new, successful places. While the word “urban” is typically attached to the name of this discipline, the process of urban design functions at all scales of places, from rural to urban.

Using the combined efforts of artists, architects, engineers, landscape designers, planners, and economists, we help our clients solve problems—and make better places—by engaging local stakeholders, finding and envisioning new possibilities, and crafting strategies that get results. The outcomes might be unexpected, but they always build on a community’s traditions and aspirations—and enrich its sense of place.
