Black Canyon Road is an Indian Reservation Road that passes through the Cleveland National Forest. The bridge spans a steep canyon over the Santa Ysabel Creek and provides an aesthetically pleasing structure that is the focal point of the area. Built in 1913, the existing bridge is considered a local Historic Landmark. Unfortunately, upon inspection, State engineers determined that the load carrying capacity was severely deficient.
NV5 designed a solution for the proposed replacement bridge, while converting the use of the existing structure for pedestrian and equestrian use. This approach resulted in meeting the goals of the board of supervisors, the environment, and the public. And it was all accomplished within the budget for the project.
