Currently, under construction, this multi-family project is located along the US Highway 70 corridor between Raleigh and Durham near the Brier Creek area.  NV5 began work on this property in 2014 when we performed a Phase I Environmental Site Assessment and a series of sol test borings to evaluate subsurface conditions.  The property is located just west of the fall line between the Piedmont and Triassic Basin provinces and within the Durham Triassic Basin.  Shallow rock, combined with a steeply sloping ground surface and a stream that crossed the center of the site made the geotechnical aspects of construction an important consideration.  After preliminary site development and grading plans were prepared by the project civil engineer, NV5 prepared design drawings and specifications for a series of eight segmental block retaining walls having a total of over 20,000 square feet of wall face, including an approximately 30 feet tall segmental block wall attached to the facing of a soil-nail wall system that was used due to the close proximity of the cut wall to the property line.  Construction began in late 2016, with NV5 providing construction materials testing services for fill placement and foundation construction, as well as foundation examinations for buildings and retaining walls, concrete quality control, and masonry materials testing.  Our services have also included Special Inspections for the four apartment buildings, post-tensioned slab foundation systems, wood framing for the apartment buildings, and the segmental retaining walls that we designed.  Project completion is scheduled for mid-2018.
