Aaron Olson
Field Surveyor, 1 year at Quantum Spatial
11 US States surveyed
How long have you been working at Quantum Spatial?
Counting my time as a geocontractor and as an employee, I have been working for Quantum Spatial for about a year and a half now. I have worked for nearly a year in the office as a Remote Sensing Technician and almost six months now as a Surveyor in the field.
What do you like most about your job?
First, I have to say my colleagues. My coworkers, in both the office and in the field, work daily to promote an inviting, disciplined and fun work environment. Second, is gaining experience with tools and skills that have huge potential in many industries. Third, is the excitement generated by huge responsibilities- learning the lay of new lands, stochastic acquisition deadlines and constantly changing priorities.
What are you looking forward to as a surveyor?
I am looking forward to becoming familiar with new places, improving my abilities with survey techniques/instruments and continuing to use these skills throughout my career.
What’s your favorite work location?
It might have been the excitement of my first survey with Quantum Spatial, but I really liked working in Nebraska. The complete contrast from the Pacific Northwest, where I live, to the prairie and big blue sky of The Plains was very cool. The locals were very nice, and the migratory birds were constantly flying overhead.
When not working, what do you like to do?
When I am not working I like to fish, hike, snowboard, skateboard, run, rock hound, metal/wood/stone working, work on cars, and read. Currently I am in the middle of “I Contain Multitudes” an unexpected page turner about our bodies relationship with microbes.
