Quantum Spatial to Share Insights on New Platforms for Utility Remote Sensing

Quantum Spatial, Inc. (QSI), the nation’s largest independent geospatial data firm, today announced that Anand Iyer, the company’s senior vice president for Products & Technology, will be a featured panelist at the 2018 Northwest Energy Resiliency Summit, hosted by Smart Grid Northwest.
“Robots and drones are emerging as new platforms that electric utilities can use for remote sensing and monitoring. Using numerous types of sensors – thermal cameras, LiDAR and sniffers for natural gas or other hazardous material – these platforms support continuous, near real-time collection of vast quantities of data. This data, coupled with advanced analytics, deliver valuable, actionable insights for utility companies.”
-Anand Iyer, VP
WHAT:    2018 Northwest Energy Resiliency Summit
WHEN:    June 12, 2018 at 3 p.m.
WHERE:    Panoramic Room, Pacific Tower, Seattle
DETAILS:     Panel Discussion: “Technology Solutions to Enable Resiliency: Distribution Automation and Advanced Monitoring for Real-Time Awareness and System Optimization”
Many solutions exist to maximize energy system optimization and increase real-time monitoring of critical assets. Panelists will discuss diverse solutions that are bringing transformative technologies to the grid that can be effectively applied here in the Northwestern United States.
QSI’s Iyer will focus on how robots and drones are being deployed to monitor critical assets and substations to gather data in ways not previously possible. He also will talk about how these platforms fit into strategies involving the industrial Internet of Things, as well as the types of insights utility companies can attain with continuous streams of data from the field.
Iyer will be joined on the panel by Curt Kirkeby, technology strategist and engineer for Avista Utilities; Soorya Kuloor, Ph.D., practice director, Distribution Operations for Landis+Gyr; and Tuan Tran, director of engineering for Seattle City Light.
